IIFA participants to be boycotted in south India


If Bollywood stars attend the fest, their films could be boycotted in south India.
From the very beginning, south Indian film associations were against the selection of Colombo as the venue of the IIFA awards (the International Indian Film Awards), to be held later this week. Now, the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) has come up with the decision that they will boycott Bollywood films, if any of their stars or technicians attend the Colombo fest. Anushka's ‘Vedham’ to arrive on June 4


One of the most awaited Telugu films this year, 'Vedham' has been censored and is all set for a huge release this June 4.A high profile multi-starrer, the film stars Allu Arjun, Anushka Shetty and Manchu Manoj in the lead.

Krish, the director of the film says that the film has come out well and that it will be a pleasant departure from the run-of-the mill films we have been witnessing recently. Gallery: Tollywood @ T20 Logo launch!


A T20 cricket tournament has been organised to raise funds for the education of the poor children in Andhra Pradesh. Four teams, with almost all the popular male stars in Tollywood as members, would compete for the trophy. The matches, scheduled to take place on June 13, will be shot with 40 cameras and telecast live on Gemini TV. Balakrishna unveiled the logo of the tournament.
The four teams in the fray are led by the four pillars of Tollywood: Chiranjeevi (Chiru Cheetahs), Balakrishna (Balayya Lions), Victory Venkatesh (Venky Warriors) and Nagarjuna (Nag Kings). Sixty actors have been included in the teams. The others would help out with organisational tasks.
The tournament will start at 9 a.m. and will go on till 11 p.m.Actors are practising for the match in real earnest. Here are the logos for the T20 tournament...

AR Rahman in Jackson costume!


The Mozart of Madras will be seen performing in the costume of 'Wacko Jacko' Michael Jackson in his 'Jai Ho' concert, which will kick off in New York on June 11.
The tickets for the concerts have already been sold out, says an agent of the show.AR Rahman will be seen in 24 different outfits for his 24 songs to be presented at the New York concert. About 300 costumes have been designed for him by famous Indian designer Ritu Beri.Expand The blog.....

'Singam' roars in Mumbai!


'Singam', an all out entertainer from Messrs. Suriya-Hari Co. has taken the Tamil Nadu B.O. by storm.
It is doing very well in Mumbai also. In fact, it has fared much better than some of the Bollywood hits in recent times.In Mumbai territory (Mumbai and Pune), the film was launched in 38 screens, a record in recent times for a Tamil film. Altogether, the film was released in 512 screens globally; of them, 352 in Tamil Nadu.

Amitabh approached to play Tagore!


Amitabh Bachchan has been approached to play the role of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in a biopic to be made on the great Bengali poet.
The film will be directed by Ujjvwal Chatterji; the script, dialogues and lyrics will be penned by Javed Akhtar.

The film will be dealing with an older Tagore and his life at the Shantiniketan after he won the Nobel Prize for literature, it is believed.

Swetha Menon has made it clear that she will not be acting in the sequel to 'Avalude Raavukal', a path-breaking film made in the '70s.
Earlier, it was reported that the sequel, to be directed by IV Sasi himself, would feature Swetha in the role of Raji, played with great finesse by Seema in the original.

As per reports, Swetha was supposed to play a wealthy Raji in her forties, who comes to Ernakulam with her teenaged daughter. Raji, a teen sex worker, was the protagonist in the original, penned by Alleppey Sherif. He wirlds the pen for the sequel too.

Kamal Haasan asked to surrender Padma award


A section of Tamil activists who were upset over the patronage given to India International Film Festival (IIFA) to be held in Colombo next wee, raised slogans outside Kamal Haasan's office in Alwarpet on Sunday.
They demanded that he should relinquish the post of president (south) of the entertainment wing of Federation of Indian Commerce and Industry (FICCI); they also asked him to return the Padma Shri award he was honoured with, to the central government. Pay up for 'Sura' losses, theatre owners ask Vijay


In an urgent meeting convened on Saturday, theatre owners and distributors in Tamil Nadu have decided to ask Vijay to refund a portion of the losses they incurred while screening 'Sura'.
The big budget film, on which they had spent so much money, has bombed at the B.O.

Vijay should be refunding at least 40 percent of the money they put up as minimum guarantee, said Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association secretary Rohini Paneerselvam.

He will be reducing his weight by about 20 kilos for 'Aadujeevitham', a film by noted writer-director Blessy. He will be undergoing a strict diet regimen once he completes 'Anwar', a film by Amal Neerad. The shooting for the film will begin in August at the deserts in Dubai and Rajasthan, it is reported.

In 'Raavan', Aishwarya was heroic: Vikram


During the shooting of 'Raavan' in the thick jungles in Kerala, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was as brave as a hero in overcoming stiff challenges, both physical and mental, said Vikram.
He said to a news agency, "Aishwarya suffered all the wounds, pain, fever and insect bites heroically in the forests. For all the dangerous scenes she hardly ever used a duplicate. Mammootty's 'Kottayam Kunjachan' sequel on cards


TS Suresh Babu, who returns to active filmmaking with 'Kanyakumari', plans to make a sequel to his 'Kottayam Kunjachan', a Mammootty superhit. Mammootty played an illiterate goon who wanted to mend his ways and sets up a driving school in the film, released in 1990. His peculiar mannerisms and witty dialogues had the viewers in splits. The cast of the film included Ranjini, Usha, KPAC Lalitha, Sukumaran, Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar and Kunchan.

Shah Rukh does not speak with Salman!


If anybody thought that Shah Rukh Khan's attitude to Salman Khan had undergone a sea change when the latter came out in support for 'My Name Is Khan', he is mistaken.
